India is now conducting Census 2027. The Census is being conducted in two phases and will be India's first Census using digital data collection.

  • Census 2027 will use digital/mobile-based enumeration.
  • Self-enumeration is being introduced as an additional facility.
  • Caste enumeration will also be undertaken during the second phase.

As of September 2026, the new Census results have not yet replaced the Census 2011 figures. Therefore, students should continue to quote Census 2011 when a question specifically asks for official Census 2011 population density or sex-ratio data.
